Shimmer Paint Techniques

Yesterday I shared this card with you. If you watched my video or saw my Facebook Live you saw that I used some Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint to add some sparkle to the doily.  Today I have more shimmer paint techniques for you.  I used the Vegas Gold but you could use any of our shimmer paints for these techniques.  First I colored the chicken wire on the right with the shimmer paint in the same way that I colored the doily.  I added some of the paint to my sponge and dabbed on the paint until I had the coverage I wanted.
The second way I used the shimmer paint was all those gorgeous gold splatters on the background.  I simply dropped a drop or two onto an acrylic block then added a little water with my aqua painter and used my aqua painter to splatter the paint on.  Word of caution.  I did this in a box lid to contain the splatter.  It does get everywhere!  But the final results are worth it!  Make sure you wash your block and aqua painter as soon as you're done.  There's so many more ways to use our shimmer paint!  These are just a couple of ways!

Friendly Conversations and Gold Heat Embossing

I have a really fun and beautiful card today. I shared this card on my weekly Facebook Live this week.  It's a great way to use up those scraps of DSP.  My background is made with just 1" strips of DSP. I know we all have those scraps lying around!  I gold heat embossed my sentiment from the Friendly Conversations stamp set on some vellum.  I'm in the process of creating a YouTube channel and converting all my past Facebook Lives to YouTube videos.  This is a timely process on top of all my other daily work so please be patient as I transfer them all over.  In the meantime please hit subscribe on my channel and share with your friends so you can be notified when I do add another video.  You can find my channel on YouTube by searching 'Ruth's Stamping Corner' or click on the video below.

Halloween 10 Week Countdown Week 5

Over the next 10 weeks I'll share a new and fun Halloween idea all the way up to October 31!  If you don't craft for Halloween, don't worry!  You can adapt all of these ideas to any holiday or occasion.  Today I have a fun non-candy treat.  These cute pouches couldn't be easier to make and what a cute gift for a teacher! The pouches are a 2"x11" piece of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock, scored at 4".  After adding some DSP I folded along the score line and added a couple staples to hold it closed. I used two pieces of DSP, the top one is cut to 1 3/4"x3" and bottom pieces is 1 3/4"x3 3/4". I finished it off by adding some ribbon to hide the staples.  Add your pencils and you're done!  It's that easy!!!!
I embellished mine little more using some images from the Cauldron Bubble Bundle.  For this one I added a cute little witch.  I used my Stampin' Blends to color her and added some Vegas Gold Glimmer Paint to the stars and moon on her apron.  Just a little sparkle to go a long way!
For the second one I used the cat and perched him on the broomstick.  So cute and whimsical!  The ribbon I used is the Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon.  I love this ribbon!!!  It adds the perfect finishing touches to any Halloween project!  I can't believe we're already halfway through the countdown!  Join me next week for week 6!

Shimmer Paint Meets Tin Tile

I do a weekly Facebook Live for my team in our private group, we talk about what's going on in our business, I like to do some training and sometimes I share a fun technique with them.  It's always a great time to join my team!  If you've been thinking about it why not join?  We have the most fun!  In our Facebook Live a couple weeks ago I shared how to get this amazing and stunning look with the shimmer paint, and it couldn't be easier to do!  First though I stamped and colored the images from the Country Home set.  I used Stampin' Blends to color them then I fussy cut the image.  YES I FUSSY CUT THEM! I love the final look but fussy cutting it took some time.
For the background I used a sponge and added some Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint directly to the Tin Tile Embossing folder.  I was intentional about not covering the entire folder, I wanted a more splotchy, aged look to it. Then I added my Blackberry Bliss cardstock and ran it through my Big Shot.  The results are beautiful!!! There's so much shimmer to it and I love that the Shimmer Paint is nestled into the embossed areas.  Such a pretty look!!!

Colorful Halloween

Who says Halloween has to be spooky and scary?  Why not make it colorful and fun!  I used the Cauldron Bubble Bundle for these two cards and they're soooo cute!  I used some of the smaller images in the set, maybe images that might get overlooked to make these two cards.  I stamped the cat and ghost multiple times then I colored them using Stampin' Blends.   I used a variety of colors then cut them out and popped them up on Basic Black squares.
I think they have a very Andy Warhol kind of look to them, with the same image transformed by different bright colors.  I'm not sure which I like better, the cats or ghosts?  Which do you prefer, comment on this post and let me know.

Winter Woods Christmas

Last week on my Facebook Live I shared how to make this card.  We used some partial die cutting and added lots of beautiful Copper accents.  I do a Facebook Live every Tuesday on my Facebook Page at 2:30pm MST.  Search for me 'Ruth's Stampin' Corner' and like my page so you'll never miss a video!  If you did miss this one you can catch the replay here. Halloweeen 10 Week Countdown Week 4

Over the next 10 weeks I'll share a new and fun Halloween idea all the way up to October 31!  If you don't craft for Halloween, don't worry!  You can adapt all of these ideas to any holiday or occasion.  Today I have another fun non-candy treat.  Today's project uses the Cauldron Bubble Bundle.  Such a cute Bundle!! I colored everything with our Stampin' Blends and cut it all out with the coordinating framelits.  I love that cute witch and her giant cauldron!
To color the pizza box I filled a Spritzer with rubbing alcohol and then added some Highland Heather reinker and some Vegas Gold Shimmer paint.  I mixed it really really well and then sprayed the entire box.  The alcohol evaporates quickly so it dries fast.  The shimmer from the shimmer paint add sooooo much sparkle!!

I filled the pizza box with some cute Halloween socks that I picked up at the Dollar Spot at Target. So cute!!!  You could also fill the box with candy or even a gift card.  I'll be back next week with week 5 of my 10 week countdown to Halloween!

Tic Tac Reindeers

These might be the cutest little reindeers ever!!! I had the most fun making these.  They were really easy to put together.  The boxes hold the littlest pack of Tic Tacs.  I got these mini Tic Tacs on Amazon, search mini tic tacs, they come in a package of 60.  So you'll have lots of cute gifts!
The reindeer is made from only 3 punches.  The new Sprig Punch for his antlers, the 1" Circle punch for his eyes and nose and the 3/4" Circle Punch for the blacks of his eyes.  The box is super simple to assemble.  You need a piece of cardstock that is 2"x 3 7/8".  On the 2" Side score at 5/8" and on the longer side score at 5/8", 1 5/8", 2 1/4" and 3 1/4".  Trim the tabs on the bottom and assemble your box.  Super easy!

Best Of the Holiday Catalog Class

Over the weekend I held a class that featured some of my favorite items from the Holiday Catalog.  First up is the Making Christmas Bright Bundle.  I love this stamp set and punch so much, plus not only does the punch coordinate with one set in the catalog it also coordinates with the Making Everyday Bright Set in the Catalog.
We used all three products on this card. This card is a fun tri-fold card.  I love fun fold cards!
The second card we made featured the Trick of Tweet stamp set.  This set is the CUTEST Halloween set ever!!  I love all the sweet images in this set!  We used a few blends to color this cute cat.  Also used on this card is the new Black Foil and Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon
The Winter Woods bundle wasn't initially on my wishlist but after seeing a few things done with it I had to have it!  And it's quickly become of my favorites!  For this card we stamped the tree in Balmy Blue and continued to stamp it over the card without reinking it.  I love the lighter shades! We also paired the set with the new sprig punch.
Finally our last card is another set that wasn't on my initial wishlist but after seeing so many amazing things done with it I had to have it!  It's the Country Home stamp set. We stamped the canister on the new Galvanized Metallic Paper and yes fussy cut it!  The floral arrangement was stamped on Crumb Cake and colored using our Watercolor Pencils.  We didn't do any blending, we just used the pencils as colored pencils.  On darker cardstocks the colored pencils work great to color images.  We also used the new Tin Tile Folder to add lots of fun texture to the background.
This card is a Z Fold card, which are sooooo popular right now and they're sooooo easy.

I left the greeting off the front because I didn't want to take anything away from the front.  So we added the greeting inside.  Super cute!!  I hope you join me at my next class.  My Christmas Stamp a Stack.  For all the details check out this post.

Painted Glass Emboss Resist

Embossing is by far my favorite technique.  It's like magic to see the powder change to a glossy finish.  Embossing resist is just as magical of a technique.  I did a Facebook Live on how to do this technique.  I show these two cards in it.

I used the Painted Glass stamp set for both of them.  The intricacy of the stamps are perfect for this technique. Check out my video for more on how to do this emboss resist technique.

Suite Surprise Class

I am way behind in posting this class but I loved the cards from it!  In August I held a class called A Suite Surprise. I used 4 different suites and lots of products from each suite.  The first one is the Twinkle Twinkle Suite.  I love that this card is for so much more than just baby cards.  We used the stamp set, punch, DSP and sequins from the suite for this card.
The next card is from the Share What You Love Suite.  This suite has sooo many amazing products.  I think the star of this suite is the DSP.  Every single sheet is incredible.  I wanted to really highlight the DSP so I made it a prominent part of the card.  This is a tri-fold card as well, which makes it extra special!
Besides the DSP from the suite we also used the stamp set, Share What You Love Pearls, Rich Razzleberry Ribbon and the Pearlized Doilies.
The next suite might be my favorite!  I love everything in the Tropical Escape Suite!  This card may look familiar, if so it's inspired from one of the samples straight from the catalog!  We used the stamp set, framelits, DSP and Granny Apple Green Textured Weave Ribbon from this suite.
The final suite used in the class was the Broadway Bound Suite.  I've used this suite a ton!!!  I love the color and the gold metallic accents!  From the suite we used the stamp set, framelits, metallic pearls, and DSP.  So fun!!!

Halloween 10 Week Countdown Week 3

Over the next 10 weeks I'll share a new and fun Halloween idea all the way up to October 31!  If you don't craft for Halloween, don't worry!  You can adapt all of these ideas to any holiday or occasion.  Today I have a fun non-candy treat.  At the Target Dollar Spot (my favorite place!) I found a package of 6 mini nail polish bottles.  They're little and they're perfect for gifting!

Here are the measurements for the box.  You'll need a piece of cardstock that is 7 1/4 x 3 3/4" On the 3 3/4" side score at 1 1/4" and 2 1/2". On the 7 1/4" side score 2 1/2" inches just on the top and bottom of the cardstock, leave the center panel clear.  Continue scoring along the entire cardstock at 3", 4 1/4", 5 1/2", 6 3/4".
When you're done scoring you should have a piece that looks like this.  Cut along the solid lines and fold and burnish on the dotted score lines.  You'll notice that first vertical score line at 2 1/2" is only scored on the top and bottom.  The center section will be the back of your holder.  I used a 3/4" Circle punch to punch the hole for the lid.  I've notched in the sides of the box as well for easier assembly.
The half inch flaps adhere to the back of the box.  The side panels fold up and create the rest of the box.
Don't put any adhesive on the 3 flaps on the lid, that so your gift can open and close.  Now you can decorate your box with DSP or anything else!  Join me next week for week 4 of the countdown.

Dashing Deer Embossed

The Dashing Deer Bundle in the new Holiday Catalog is one of my favorites!  I love the simple deer images and the lovely greetings in this set.  This card is a great one to mass produce for holiday cards this year and the silver embossing is stunning!!!   The deer's are stamped and embossed in silver embossing powder.  Any metallic powder would be beautiful.  I matched the strip of Glimmer paper at the bottom with the embossing powder, just to add a little extra sparkle!
The greeting is stamped in Old Olive to match the card.  I added some Silver Metallic Thread behind it.  Finally the stitched scallop border is from the Sweetly Stitched Framelits in the Holiday Catalog.  It's a subtle addition but adds a lot to this card!  You can get the Dashing Deer Bundle in my online store. Shop Now!

Halloween 10 Week Countdown Week 2

Over the next 10 weeks I'll share a new and fun Halloween idea all the way up to October 31!  If you don't craft for Halloween, don't worry!  You can adapt all of these ideas to any holiday or occasion.  Today's fun treat is a simple and fun box you can make for any occasion, I just happened to make mine for Halloween!
This box is super easy to put together and I shared yesterday in my Facebook Live video below.  Here are the measurements for the box. I encourage you to check out the video for assembly of the box.  You'll need a 9 3/4" x 8 1/2" of cardstock.  On the 9 3/4" side score at 1 1/4", 4 1/4", 5 1/2" and 8 1/2".  On the 8 1/2" side score at 1 1/4" and 7 1/4".

I used the new Takeout Treats stamp set in the Holiday Catalog.  Super cute for a fun greeting.  The doily is our new colored doilies, I simply used the back where it's white!  Inside the box holds 2 Little Debbie snack cakes, I chose these because they kind of look like spider webs LOL.  Either way they didn't last long, the kids devoured the box of them.  But this would make a really sweet treat for anyone in your life!

Sliding Santa

I love cards that are interactive.  They're my favorite card to make and give because they're soooo much fun.  Interactive cards don't have to be complicated to make.  Slider cards are some of the easiest interactive cards to create.  On this card when you pull the window sheet behind Santa, Mrs. Claus comes sliding his way!  So Cute!!!!  I colored the images with Stampin' Blends, I love how bright and vibrant it all is!

To create the slider I punched two of the Classic Label punch in my white layer. Make sure your two punches over lap to create one long channel.  I slid a strip of a window sheet behind the punched out channel (this piece is about 3/4" wide, but you could go wider if you wanted, it just has to be long enough to stick out the right side of the card so you know to pull it).   Add a dimensional onto the window sheet on the far left side of the punched area.  Make sure the dimensional fits INSIDE the channel.  Add Mrs. Claus to the other side of the dimensional. The image should slide back and forth along the channel now.  To keep everything straight I added some dimensional strips on the back on either side of the sliding piece.  Then just add it to a card base and add the rest of your elements on the card.  So cute!!!

Takeout Penguin

Last week I shared lots of samples of these adorable takeout boxes! I share the Halloween ones here and three more examples here.  Today I have probably the cutest sample yet!  It's a penguin!!!!  Ahhhh!!!  He's so stinkin' cute!!!!! And really simple to make! The box is made from Basic Black Cardstock and his tummy is cut out in white using the rectangle shape framelit in the set.  His eyes are the 1" and 1/2" Circle Punch, his beak is a leaf from the Lemon Punch, his wings are the 1 3/4" Circle Punch and his feet are the 1" Circle Punch.
I adhered everything to the front of the box and they eyes pop out over the top.  So cute!!!  Make sure to add this Takeout Box Thinlits to your wishlist.  The Holiday Catalog goes live in just a couple day on September 5!
