No Matter The Weather-VIDEO

Did you get the March Paper Pumpkin kit?  It's probably one of my favorite ever!  These kits just keep getting better and better and better!!! I mentioned it in my video and I'm still not sure how Stampin' Up! did it but they were dead on with the timely sentiments in this months kit.  I LOVE THEM!!!

The cards go together quickly but they pack a punch with color and sentiments.  I even ordered a refill for this months kit.  I plan to make a bunch of these cards and keep mailing them out to people who need a little extra encouragement right now!
The cards in this months kit are smaller notecard size cards. In my video I shared how simple it is to mount them on a larger card base if you want a larger card. There are so many options with Paper Pumpkin. I've listed links to subscribe and shop for prepaid subscriptions below. Don't miss April's kit! You must be subscribed by April 10th to receive it. I can't wait!!!

Tags In Bloom Cupcake Box-VIDEO

TOMORROW is the last day of Sale-a-Bration that means that TOMORROW is the LAST day you can earn this stamp set FREE!!!  After tomorrow all Sale-a-Bration products will be gone.  Don't miss getting your hands on this amazing set.  The Tags In Bloom Set is one of my favorites.  I've LOVED using it!!!  I shared this super sweet cupcake box on a Facebook live last weekend.  It's a super easy box to make!
I designed it to hold a hostess cupcake.  This one happens to be lemon flavored and I'm not gonna lie, in our current stay and home situation I've had a couple.  They're yummy!  I love how the lid angles up like that!  I think it adds some really fun dimension to this box.

To make the box you'll need some cardstock that is 10 1/2" x 6". On the long side score at 1 1/2", 4 1/2", 6" and 9". On the short side score at 1 1/2" and 4 1/2". Once it's scored trim it up as pictured. I put 'x's on the tabs that need adhesive. Check out my video below for more on how to assemble this box.

Puppy Love

I have the last card that I demoed in my team virtual meeting.  This one might be my favorite card.  I'm calling it a pull and push card.  When you pull and push on the tabs on the side the puppies move away and then come closer together.  It's like magic and it's pretty amazing!!!  To make the card you'll need two pieces of cardstock that are each 5 1/2" x 6 1/4" on long side score at 1/2" and 1" on each side. Die cut window in front piece. Add window sheet.
Fold and burnish on your score lines doing a valley fold on the first one and mountain fold on the second one.  Turn your cardstock around and do it the same way.   On your back piece you'll run a line of adhesive along the outside 1/2" panels on each side.  Use a strong adhesive.  Add a small scrap of a window sheet to each side on the adhesive.  Adhere your images to the window sheets and add your top piece of cardstock lining everything up.  Now when you pull and push on those side tabs your images will move with it.  Make sure you test spacing on your images before you add the top piece to make sure they won't intersect or overlap.  This card will fold flat to fit in an envelope.  If you've loved all these cards I've shared this week, consider joining my team.  I share lots of tips and tricks with them and we always have so much fun. You can purchase the starter kit here.  I have a full list of supplies below.

Tunnel Card With Rise And Shine

I have two more cards to share from my team virtual meeting.  Today and tomorrow. Both are pretty amazing cards! This card is a tunnel card.  It's like a fancy pop up card that creates tons of dimension in side but it folds flat to mail which is awesome!  I used the Rise and Shine Set from Sale-a-Bration Second release. HURRY Sale-a-Bration is almost over!  It's time to place those orders!!! I kept the front pretty simple because the really spotlight of the card is inside.
When you open the card there's so much dimension!  It's so cool!!!  To make a tunnel card you'll need two pieces of cardstock I used Petal Pink for mine.
Petal Pink 5 1/2 x 8 score long side at 4 1/4Petal Pink 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 score long side at 1/2, 4 1/4, and 4 3/4.  This piece when folded will create a rectangle.  Die cut window in panel between both 1/2 panels. Die cut before assembling.  I used a circle for mine, but you could use an oval, heart, etc.  Anything you want your window to be!  To adhere it all together, you'll need to add tear and tape to the first 1/2" tab on your bigger piece (this piece should be scored with a half inch panel on the end then a larger panel with your window die cut, then another half inch panel and a larger piece).  The tab will get adhered to the inside of the card against the score line.  Adhere the back of the card and the larger panel together in the back to create your tunnel card.  I have a full supply list below.

Under Your Umbrella Slider

I have some more amazing cards that I shared with my team in our virtual meeting last week.  This first one is the classic slider card.  It's so fun to make and I promise whoever gets this card will be completely happy and won't stop playing with it.  Slider cards are pretty simple to make.  You simply need a "channel' for the items to slide.

Our classic label punch creates a quick and easy 'channel'. Once you have your channel you just attach the item you want to slide, in this case the umbrella, to another piece of cardstock that is behind the channel.  I used a Mini Dimensional to attach my slider object (umbrella) to my slider cardstock.  Just don't adhere to the sides of the channel itself.  Once you have that all sandwiched in there your slider will move up and down.  You can then decorate your card however you choose. I have a full supply list below of everything I used on this card.

Fun Fold With New Ornate Garden Suite

Last week I had a virtual meeting with my team.  I do a virtual meeting with my team every other month, or I at least try. So this was a meeting that was planned way before everything happened.  But it was so great to connect with them and to chat with them!  Part of the virtual meeting is doing make and takes together.  This was one of their make and takes.  Our entire meeting was themed around cards that are either a fun fold or have movement to them.  I'll share the second make and take tomorrow, and all the demos later this week.  Yes that IS tons of new products on this card!  The DSP, stamps, dies and gems are all new products coming in April from the Ornate Garden Suite.  Right now demonstrators can preorder this suite, but if you want to join my team this month you can also add this stuff in your starter kit too!
This card is a fun fold card, a fold that I've really been loving lately!  I saw this card made by Connie Stewart and I loved the fold so much.  I've made a bunch of cards featuring it.  It's easy to do!  I've listed measurements below.  If you're interested in joining my team on their next virtual meeting now is a great time to join my team.  When you join during Sale-a-Bration you'll get the amazing new mini trimmer, a paper sampler pack and any free stamp set of your choice (choose the most expensive one!).  All of that is in addition to the $125 of products YOU choose, all for only $99!!!  Amazing deal!  I'd love to have you on my team!  You can join here.  I don't have a supply list for this card because most of it isn't available to purchase yet.  You can shop the Ornate Garden Suite beginning April 1.

His and Her Class

Hello!!!  Blogging universe are you still there?  You guys we are in crazy times!  I'm sure in your community your feeling the same stress and panic as everyone in mine.  Let's calm down and all take a collective deep breath from the comfort of our homes...….better.....good.  I think right now more than ever we need to be crafting and SHARING our cards with others.  So alllllll those cards you've made that are stacking up, get them in the mail!  Send them to your friends, elderly neighbors, family, first responders and more!  We need to show kindness and compassion instead of fear and panic.  Do that with your cards, the joy you'll bring will far outweigh the panicEven in light of everything I held my class over the weekend.  I did consider cancelling but I keep my class attendance low so I knew it would be a low risk event and those that felt uncomfortable attending were given the option of still receiving their cards made.
Those that did attend were happy to be there and I was happy to provide them a couple hours of normalcy and relaxation.  So here are the cards they made!  My His and Hers class was designed around the concept of using the same stamp set to make a card for him or her.  Just because a stamp set is floral themed doesn't mean it can ONLY be used for a girl.  I wanted to share that concept.  My first his and hers example uses the new Tags In Bloom Set.  You can earn this set free with a $100 qualifying order.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this set!!!
My second set of his and hers cards showcases the new Rise and Shine Set another option to earn free with a qualifying $100 order.  I honestly don't know which set I love more this one or the Tags in Bloom.  They're both sooooo incredible!!!
My her card using the Rise and Shine set is so cute and it's a fun fold!  You can easily adapt this to a gift card holder too!  What a cute card to stick a Starbucks card in.  So fun!!
Finally my last set of his and hers cards uses the Seriously The Best Set.  You might have overlooked this stamp set in the January-June Mini Catalog.  It's back with the kits and coordinates with the Seriously The Best Kit.  Which is one of my favorite kits!!
The final card uses the new Flowering Foils DSP that is also a free item you can choose during Sale-a-Bration with a qualifying $50 order.  I also used this DSP on my first his card with the Tags in Bloom set.  Unless something happens at this point I do anticipate holding my April class on April 11.  If you're in the Albuquerque area then I'd love to have you attend. You can email me for details stamperrdn@q.com

You may notice my blogging will be intermittent over the next few weeks.  My husband's company has ordered employees to work from home.  We share an office/craft room and computer so there will simply be times over the next month that I will not be able to work.  I am going to try to keep things as normal as possible but my blog will be impacted no doubt.  I may try to share more on social media so please follow me on Facebook and Instagram.  You can find me in both places under 'Ruth's Stamping Corner'.  In addition to my husband working from home. Schools have been canceled so I have my kiddos home for the next 3 weeks (at minimum).  Things will be interesting!  Hang in there and we'll all be ok.  Use this time to craft and don't forget to SHARE YOUR CARDS!

Rococo Birthday

Yesterday I shared another watercolored image with the Happy Birthday To You set.  Today I have a different one.  You can see the different looks you can get with watercoloring.  The rest of the card is super simple I just added some gingham DSP and Rhinestones to finish it off.  You could use the coordinating dies to cut out the cake.  When I made this card I didn't have my dies so I fussy cut mine.
On yesterdays card I let the layers dry in between and really layered on the color.  Today's card was quick and easy and I didn't layer the color at all.  This is my first layer and I loved it so I stopped.  I have a full supply list below.

Watercolored Birthday

I love the look of watercoloring but I'm not good at doing it often.  Our Stampin' Blends are so easy to use I usually always grab those when I need to color.  But when I do break out supplies to watercolor I'm always happy with the results.  Watercoloring does have a bit of a learning curve my best advice is just to keep doing it.  Like anything the more you do it the better and more comfortable you'll be at it.  My favorite kind of watercoloring is starting with a heat embossed image.  The heat embossing creates 'wells' that control the flow of water through your image.  I always have the most success with an embossed image.
Having the right tools is essential for successful watercoloring.  Watercolor paper is a must have.  Unlike other paper, watercolor paper is made from cotton so it can absorb and move water better than other paper, which when exposed to water can basically disintegrate.   An aqua painter is another must have tool.  You can control how much water is used with an aqua painter.  I like to just color with our ink pads, I generally smoosh them onto a block and pick up the color there.  You can also use reinkers for a more vivid color.  Remember that watercolors are slow drying, you can speed this process up with your heat tool but I like to just let them dry on their own.  Often colors and blending will look different when your image is completely dry then when you're working with it.  If you aren't happy with how your image looks, let it dry and come back to it.  Finally, go light on the color.  You can always layer and add more color but it's very hard to remove it.  Start light and work into the darker areas.  I have a full supply list below for this card.

Strawberry Scented Embossing Powder

The Witty-Cisms stamp set is so cute!  Every time I use it I'm reminded how much I love it!  This time I took the card to the next level and made a scratch and sniff card!  This card really smells like strawberries!  The secret is in the embossing powder.  I shared this card a couple weeks ago with my team.  It's so easy to make!  The rest of the card is pretty simple I used the Basket Weave folder to add lots of texture and I paired it with the Poppy Parade gingham DSP from the Brights Pack.  Add some ribbon and jewels and this card is done!  I have a full supply list below.
To make the scented embossing powder you need two things, clear embossing powder and Koolaid.  When you purchase your Koolaid make sure you get the little envelopes with no sugar added.  If you get the Koolaid with the sugar already added when you heat it you'll end up with a caramelized mess instead of yummy scented embossing.  I only made a small amount of this when I made mine, a little embossing powder goes a long way. But if you have a big embossing project then by all means make as much as you want the ratio is 2:1, two parts embossing powder to one part Koolaid.  When I made mine I used an 1/8 teaspoon of Koolaid to 1/4 teaspoon to embossing powder.  That may seem like such a tiny amount but remember you use very little embossing powder when you emboss.  After a couple of these cards I still have some scented powder left.  Once your embossing powder is made you can use it just like any other embossing powder.

Just a few tips for success:
  • The Koolaid will tint your embossing powder a little, not a whole lot, but enough to notice.  So make sure your stamp in whatever color your embossing powder is.  For my card I used my Stamparatus to stamp my image in Poppy Parade then again in Versamark.  The Stamparatus makes sure I can restamp in the exact spot again.
  • Unlike plain embossing powder your scented powder will not be a smooth glossy texture.  It will raised and almost the texture of embossing paste.  If you want a super smooth finish this might not be your technique.
  • Make sure you use your Embossing Buddy for this technique, you don't want stray Koolaid sticking everywhere.
  • I'm not sure how long the scent lasts, but I would recommend mailing or giving these cards recently after making.  I still have the couple I made nearly 2 weeks later and they still smell nice like strawberries, but I'm not sure that will last the test of time.  Good rule of thumb, use it when you make it.
Have fun with this one!
