It's week 7, we're in the homestretch of the Twelve Weeks Series now. Today I have an ADORABLE project to share! I LOVE it!! When I first saw the Gingerbread Man Die I knew I wanted some cute home decor. I actually started with a gingerbread man garland but it wasn't working out like I thought, then on a trip to Target I saw they were selling a gingerbread man wreath....YES! That's exactly the inspiration I needed! So I scraped my garland idea and repurposed my guys into a wreath and I couldn't be more pleased!
I cut my guys using the dies with some felt from a hobby store. I chose two colors of brown for the men and traditional colors for their accessories. You can customize this however you want. If you love a pastel Christmas grab some pastel colors, pinks-why not? Make it your own. I used a stiffer white felt for the faces and the icing on their legs because they're such small pieces.
Every die I used is from the Gingerbread Man dies, the hats, bows, scarfs, mugs, candies, icing and faces all come in the dies. If you're having trouble cutting your felt try adding a shim to the top of your die cutting stack. I used a piece of printer paper folded in half and that was sufficient to cut all my felt pieces without issue. Every machine is a little different so you may need a thicker shim, you might not need a shim at all. You can also build these guys with cardstock but I love the look of the felt. It's feels warm and cozy. The little men are all backed with cardstock for stability, Crumb Cake on the lighter ones and Pecan Pie on the darker ones.
The wreath base is a piece of chipboard, I used the thick ones that come with some of our specialty DSP. I traced a large plate onto it and then traced a smaller plate inside it, trimmed out the wreath then wrapped it in our White Fluffy Trim. Keep in mind I used almost a whole roll to wrap the wreath. For the second one I make in the video I used some ribbon from a hobby store that was a little less expensive. Both worked great. I do love the feel of the Fluffy Trim.
I used a glue gun to adhere everything. I used some reverse tweezers on the tiny pieces so I didn't burn my finger tips-spoiler I still burned them. LOL! I love the final result of this adorable wreath. I hope you give it a try!
